Thinking about animals

I took some photos of the fish in my kitchen fishtank, so I could see if they would be an interesting enough subject for drawing.

These ones are quite striking because of the big wires in the background. It's an interesting design feature, but detracts rather from the fish I think.

The orange of the fins is strong, and almost looks as if it's not attached to the body.

The colours of this fish are much more subtle, which goes nicely with the more feathery weed.

I tried to photograph it in various different angles to see if I could capture the movement and think about how I would draw this fish.
